Born and raised in Michigan, its no wonder this girl has the soul and spirit of Motown!!! And a little vocal training from Bertha McNeal of Motown’s “Velvelettes” didn’t hurt either.
Now residing in Chicago & Dallas, this Singer / Songwriter is definitely a bonafide double hitter to watch out for.
Opening and / or performing background vocals for: The Jones Girls, Wayman Tisdale, Paul Taylor, Jean Carne, Cherrelle, Angela Winbush, Avant, Michelle Branch, and others, Nicole is a seasoned live performer with a wealth of experience on the scene working with a host of A list artists.
Nicole is also an accomplished actress, with performances in musicals, dramas and comedies such as: Dreamgirls, Beehive, Wine in the Wilderness, The Lion King, Once On This Island & Cast.
Nicole joined the Bigspin Music family in early 2010 when John Oudo heard her voice, almost by accident & instantly realised it was the voice he was looking for to sing 2 tracks he had written & composed.
Within 2 weeks Nicole was in London & in the studio with John & the two of them hit it off right from the beginning & recorded both tracks “I Don’t Need You” & “Satisfied” which hit the charts with gusto & established releases number 4 & 5 of the Bigspin catalogue as hugely successful singles across the Soul, House & Jazz genres alike.
Nicole will also be featuring on John Oudo’s eagerly awaited debut album in 2011 along side a host of talented performers & artists.
Currently working in the studio with Preston Glass, David Dyson and Vick Lavender & most recently John Oudo, Nicole has added the house music scene to her already good repertoire of expertise & is taking the dance scene by storm!
With collaborations with a plethora of house music producers in recent years, Adeola looks to have established herself as one of the new breed of rising stars in the UK Soul & Dance scene & is tipped for big things.
Adeola was introduced to the Bigspin Music Family in 2009 through the London Jazz circuit & her natural and unique vocal talent was immediately recognised.
Adeola’s work with the Bigspin Music label continued & she went on to perform backing vocals on “Work Me Over” by John Oudo & since then she has been a regular feature in the dance music charts & performing live throughout the country at club institutions & live music venues.
With more music forthcoming on Bigspin Music, including tracks on John Oudo’s forthcoming album, be sure to keep an eye on this artist. She is definitely staying around!
Some words of support from the UK’s globally acclaimed Soul music supremo, radio Jock, columnist & respected music industry figurehead, Dr Bob Jones.
“ The most satisfying thing about Bigspin Music is the consistent quality that comes from every release.
This prestigious UK motif is one of the most soulful labels on the planet and John Oudo’s productions are unique in that everything he produces reaches your heart and your soul.
Yes, I can honestly say that Bigspin Music is the future of Inspirational Dance Music and John Oudo an incredibly talented young gun with an incredible future in the world of black music………..Word ”
Dr Bob Jones Oct/2010
Bigspin Music Artist & Chicago Soulstress Nicole Mitchell takes some time out to tell us a bit about herself, her experiences & her views on the scene.
Q1) Welcome to the Bigspin Music family, What have been your initial thoughts & highlights of working with the Bigspin Music family ?
Its my absolute pleasure. Initially I knew John produced and was known for releasing great music though i had no idea how well known and respected he is. Ive met so many incredible DJ’s, Producers and fans that are really supportive and loving the collaboration.
Q2) For those out there who are not yet familiar with you, tell us a bit about yourself, your inspirations, your idols, influences, your experience in the music industry, the people you have worked with.
At an early age i started collecting records and developed a habit of reading the record liner credits. I would listen to records wondering “How do they do that? How do they make it all come together”. I became fond of Marvin Gaye and his art of making the background take the lead. Motown, Gamble & Huff, Rod Temperton, Steely Dan, Sting & The Police, Dionne Warwick, Prince, Michael Jackson, Earth Wind and Fire, Tony, Toni, Tone, Aretha Franklin and Bob Marley were all influences that caught my ear. They all had this sound. They all performed different sounds but you always could identify them and their art.
Q3) Where did you journey begin? & Where do you see yourself headed?
I was born and raised in Michigan. Started off performing in dance, drama and musical theatre. Taught music by Bertha McNeal of Motown’s “The Velvelettes”. I moved to Chicago in 1998, started singing in a band. It was then that the bug hit me to write music. I see myself writing music that truly has meaning to people all over the world. From “No Suicide”, “Girls Unite”, “U Cant Make Somebody Love You” and “Imperfect Me” i love writing music that inspires, soothes, exposes and excites. I love writing the fun, get down music too but always, always, always…no matter what, it has to be honest and have swag.
Q4) What would you say to date, has been the highlight / highlights of your career ?
Well…i had the pleasure of opening for and meeting some amazing people such as Wayman Tisdale, Jean Carne, The Jones Girls, Michelle Branch, Cherrelle and more though…i was in the background. The highlight would have to be working with award winning songwriter/producer Preston Glass. Collaborating with this lyrical genius who has penned songs for Maurice White, Phyllis Hyman, Kenny G, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Jermaine Stewart and more has been truly educating, inspiring and an a blessing.
Q5) What advice would you give to aspiring artists trying to breakthrough in the industry?
Do Your Homework!!! Know yourself, perfect your talent and be honest. Be ready to do the work and not expect anyone to make your dream happen for you. Its the music BUSINESS so it has to be treated as such. Pay attention to your own brand and dont try to be or attempt to be anyone but yourself. Be honest, be true and be loyal. Dont burn bridges and keep your eyes open at all times. Oh and no gimmicks, practice with a band and learn how to be yourself!
Q6) What are your thoughts on the current state of the music business & where do you see it heading ?
The music business is doing what all business do..trying to compete with other products. Its the public who follow the trends that concern me. Its my hope that if we keep producing great music and if people support we can be successful as independent artists and make a decent living. It takes respect from the fans and support. The labels arent bootlegging music, the fans are. If we support and spend the $.99 and spread the word to 5 friends to do the same and so on and if people would post links supporting our art like they do jokes on fb etc…we wouldnt have to worry about not having the advertising the big labels have as we would have the support of the fans. The internet is universal. Theres no excuse. Its all about support.
Q7) How important do you think music is in society & do you think it bears a strong influence on culture?
Music is Life! Meaning…you cant have a commercial, memorable movie scene or even a wedding without music. Think about it…you can hear a song you havent heard in 10 years and will immediately remember where you were or what you were doing when you heard it. Music sets trends ie: hip hop culture, Madonna in the 80’s, Culture Club, MC Hammer. All of those fore mentioned contributed to global change in clothing, style and music.
Q8) is there a song out there, old or new, that you wish you had performed on?
Fantasy by Earth Wind and Fire. Bridging the Gap album by Black Eyed Peas. Finally by CeCe Peniston. He Loves Me by Jill Scott. Soldier of Love by Sade. We Are The World. All I Do by Stevie Wonder and Share My World by Mary J Blige.

John Oudo’s fourth release & the debut appearance from Nicole Mitchell on the Bigspin Music Label.
The first of two tracks that John composed, wrote & produced for Chicago based songstress Nicole Mitchell & another hit from the John Oudo / Bigspin Music camp, with a track that compliments an underground rootsy sound combined with subliminal energy, passionate lyrics & a killer hook.
In its first week on Traxsource promo, the single reached no 7 in the top 10 best sellers chart & remained in the top 10 for a further week after that, before sitting out the top 20 for another 2 weeks.
The single also topped the stompy.com best sellers the following month & enjoyed Support & charts from John “Jelly Bean” Benitez, the Soul heaven family, global radio & selected music press.
This was a great introduction for Nicole to the Bigspin Music family & another Soulful gem from the label with all the right elements for a great House track.
Smooth in its make up, catchy with its hook & a subliminal energy that jumps out at you on the dance floor from the first bar.
100% Soulful – 100% House – 100% Real.
The third release on Bigspin Music takes us out of 2009 on a high with a song that oozes Soul from the very outset.
After a successful start in 2009 John Oudo & his Bigspin Music label have made a significant impact within the scene delivering some memorable dance floor songs that have received global acclaim amongst DJ’s, Radio & Press alike & have attracted a lot of support for this UK artist & label.
Featuring the debut smooth male lead vocals from UK artist Junior & tight backing vocals from Adeola Ranson & Ann Browne, this track is another powerhouse single true to Bigspinmusic form which hit the dance charts with gusto.
Within its first 4 days on traxsource promo it reached the top 10 best sellers & by the end of its first week in the charts was sitting pretty at its highest chart place of No 3 & It then firmly held the No6 spot for a further week & remained in the top 10 for a week after that, totaling a 3 week stint in the top 10 & so seeing out a very successful 2009 on a high.
DJ top 10’s from DJ Spen, Tony Humphries, the Soul Heaven extended family & over 300 global radio play lists in its first month.
Check out the I-DJ magazine review:
“let’s kick off with this latest release from John Oudo on his Bigspin Music label, which is getting a full release this week having already shifted a fair few units on Traxsource in promo form.
In its Main Vox Mix form, this is a traditional-style soulful house offering that wouldn’t sound out of place on King Street. That’s the mix I’m preferring for personal listening, but with my journo/blogger head on, perhaps more interesting are the Afro Vox and Afro Instrumental mixes. Interesting because these could easily cross over onto UK funky floors and the inclusion of such rubs is a definite trend in soulful house at the mo’ (just like you had the obligatory bruk rubs five years ago)
Anyway enough of the shameless plugs, back to this and there are some lovely chords and nicely counter pointed male and female vocals, so yeah, definitely worth checking for all the soulful lovers!”
Out: This week
About: This comes out on Bigspin Music, which is John Oudo’s own label. It would appear to be the third release from the label so if you wanna be the first kid on your block to be hip to the Bigspin trip, amaze your family, astound your friends etc, then hit up their website forthwith. This is real quality.
( Russell Deeks – Reviews – I-DJ Magazine 2nd Feb 2010 )
Following his highly successful debut release “Its Alright” John Oudo delivers his second instalment on his Bigspin Music Label “Loving You“. A strong, Soulful, Jazz tinged vocal house belter with a rootsy Jazz feel.
The debut single from UK rising star Adeola Ranson & a beautiful, strong vocal performance from this multi talented artist.
This track offers two dynamics musically, both the Peaktime Mix, which is lead by a strong vocal performance & pumping bass line with soulful keys following suit to create a memorable club track which is true to its roots & strong in its presence.
The Deep Rhythm Mix offers a deeper, percussive vibe, light in its make up but with an infectious drive to it & a thick percussive production which belts out on a loud club system & gets the dance floor grooving.
This release fired straight into the Traxsource top 10 within 1 week, with the highest chart position topping No 8 & holding 2 weeks in the top 10.

The debut single from the artist John Oudo on his Bigspin Music label was received exceptionally well into the marketplace earlier in 2009 & made a significant impact onto the scene.

With a strong vocal courtesy of Adeola Ranson this track offers two dynamics musically.
The Peaktime Mix is led by a strong vocal performance by Adeola Ranson & pumping, energetic bass line with soulful keys following suit to create a memorable club groove which is true to its roots & strong in its presence.
The Deep Rhythm Mix offers a deeper, percussive vibe, simplistic in its make up but with an infectious drive to it & a thick percussive production which belts on a loud club system & gets the dance floor grooving.
